The HP Envy 4520 Wireless Color PhotoPrinter is a very reasonable printer/scanner combination. There are a couple of issues you probably want to be aware of before making your purchasing decision however.
"This is a pretty simple solution that not many people know

I have not had the problems with this printer that others have complained about. I followed advice from this poster:
Would Recommend for Light to Moderate Use
on November 13, 2015
HEADS UP — It takes about 15 seconds from the moment you click “Print” to the moment it completes the first page, and that’s without printing any images; only text. Following pages thereafter take about 7 seconds each; I’m only adding this as it matters to those intending to purchase for heavy use. This shouldn’t be an issue unless you heavily use your printer (like in a very busy office space). I personally think this printer is best for home use or light office use. I print about 4-5 invoices per day so it really isn’t a problem for me.
… concerned with buying this product based on people having bad experiences with the HP auto order ink thing

Was a little concerned with buying this product based on people having bad experiences with the HP auto order ink thing. Turns out you absolutely do not have to deal with that. I just plugged the printer in, connected it to my wifi, and then selected it to be my printer from Windows 10 and it’s worked with no problem, never once hassling me about ordering ink.

Buyer Beware. This printer is “HPInstantInk” eligible. This translates to a pop-up in the printer control screen EVERY TIME YOU PRINT until you sign up for their Automatic Cartridge Replacement Service. HP WILL NOT assist in disabling this pop-up. Every time you replace a printer cartridge, this intimidation resets.
Idk why people complain about this

I’m SO GLAD I ignored the bad reviews on here and purchased this anyway…BEST PRINTER EVER. I was worried because people said it was hard to set up, they had to reconnect it to their phone or laptop or whatever every single time they use it…blah blah blah. I haven’t had any of these issues. I own my own business and don’t print a lot at home but I’ve already printed over 100 pages in the last couple months and it’s worked flawlessly.
Instant Ink program killed the deal for me. Item returned.

There is one main reason I sent this back to Amazon. It was because of HP’s Instant Ink program. Even thought I opted out of it during setup, I got an ‘Instant Ink’ popup EVERY TIME I printed something. Hey HP, you asked and I declined, end of story. I can buy my own ink cartridges. I don’t need a constant reminder of your money making ink program. I barely print 10 pages or pictures a month..
Great printer & Awesome Instant Ink program

I am a teacher and I bought this printer to be able to participate in the instant ink program. The printer and the iip are great!! The best part of the printer is that it auto prints on both sides! The pics are samples of a projects I printed with this printer. Great printer for the price.
Don’t buy if you want to print from your Android

Super frustrated. When I first got this printer and installed it, everything worked perfectly. I don’t print that often. I have spent my entire day trying to figure out why I cannot print from my Android. I was able to print from it before, just fine. I have been to HP solution center and on line forums. My settings are correct on the printer and on my phone. Don’t buy this if you want to spend hours trying to make it print from your phone. It’s brand new, barely used, and not working properly anymore. I guess you get what you pay for. I am ready to pitch it out in the trash. POS
Don’t be scared of the Ink Boogeyman! Just ignore the HP software prompt!
on July 13, 2017
Reviewer Travis Flenker is absolutely correct, and I am grateful for his review. Otherwise, I might have fallen into the HP ink spam trap many people are complaining about. I heeded his warning and the printer works great. Set-up was a breeze, and the scanner is actually one of the easiest I’ve used. In case you’ve not read his review, here’s what you need to know. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE HP SOFTWARE. YOU DON’T NEED TO, AND THAT’S HOW THE BUGABOOS WILL GET IN. During setup, when I reached the point where I was prompted to download HP software, I took Travis’s good advice and declined to download. I simply used the printer’s own screen to connect it to my wifi network, went to print from my laptop, and selected the HP Envy 4520 as the printer. It worked without issue. I was on a Mac running Sierra 10.12.5. Hopefully this helps.
