Customer Review

This Brother Printer MFCJ6535DWXL Wireless color Printer with Scanner, Copier & Fax is a great addition to our small business! We are very print heavy since we do our own marketing brochures and student training packages, so go through a lot of ink and even a few printers have been run to the point of failure. Here are my observations:

Pros –
+ Easy Setup; we had this up and on our network within a half hour of unboxing
+ Speed; this is reasonably fast when printing our documentation
+ Ink; comes with a lot of ink!
+ Duplexing; automatic duplexing works well (not sure what another reviewer was doing wrong)
+ ADF; Automatic Document Feeder makes it easy to scan or copy
+ Mobile App; installed easily and works well

Cons –
Size; this is huge! Fortunately we have a dedicated area for our networked printers

Overall, this is an excellent feature rich printer that has produced good results for us and should hold up well over time!

Highly Recommended!

Brother is not your brother

Printer is amazing – when it works. I noticed that most of the 4 star + reviews here are within a relatively short period of time from the purchase date. I felt the same way, until it begins to regularly go offline. I will get on the phone with technical support, and it works. After I restart or shutdown my computer for the day, it’s back to being offline. I did some research and the printer may have some internal Ethernet/wireless configuration errors. It’s typically the kind of problem that you would experience if you had a “several years-old” printer/other device which could not handle modern network configurations related to IP addresses, DHCP and wireless frequencies. I’ve tried with on both 2.4 and 5GHz. I made 5- 6 phone calls to Brother over an 7 month period, totaling just under 6 hours of phone tech support time. This, in addition to doing my own troubleshooting and research totaling 7-8 hours. I’ve spoken with several reps, even high level Senior Tech support Specialists. They are all very nice, but are limited in what they can do. They would not honor the 1 year warranty. They went through the same or very similar trouble shooting steps every time. On my 4th phone call, a Senior tech rep felt he found the problem – he told me not to use the Windows 10 or Mac drivers, but rather to install the Brother drivers from the Brother website. Genius, right? After 1 hour and 5 minutes on the phone, my printer was finally printing, but 2 hours later, when I restarted my computer and went to print, I was back to being offline again. I have 7 devices connected to my home network – on the 2.4 GHz and 5Ghz frequencies – and this is the only product that drops connection. If this is in fact a “good” printer model, then I found a defective one. They would not honor the warranty, even under 1 year. I got so upset, I told them to go tickle themselves, but of course I used locker-room language. They’ve wasted my time and elevated my stress levels. They are total phonies in saying they honor their warranties, because in every phone call I made, they looked for excuses not to return/exchange it. On my final 1 hour phone call, the Senior Support Supervisor, who told me he would help me after some basic troubleshooting steps, decided to send me to “advanced” tech support, to go through the steps again. That’s when I told him to go tickle himself. Brother ain’t no “brother.” They is the enemy! I have owned several Brother products – 5 to be exact. Never again. They can go jump off of a bridge.

great machine

I’ve been a big fan of Brothers printers for quite a while now, and this is just my latest in a long line, with each being better than the last. This is a great printer, fast with multiple feed paths and functionality. I knew it would be larger than normal, with it’s full 11×17 capability for both scanning and printing, but this thing is huge! I had to rearrange things on my dedicated printer table a bit, moving my laser printer (also a Brother) to one edge to make a little more room for this one and still leave air-flow space. But it works as advertised and I’m happy. If you need full 11×17 capability, I highly recommend this machine to you.

I love being able to print from my mac

This is my third Brother printer and I have never been let down. I love being able to print from my mac, ipad, and iphone. All were easy to set-up. The only thing that was a problem was setting up a windows machine and that was a windows issue (windows 8). Once the Apple apps were downloaded it only took 15 seconds to set-up. Good job Brother.

Works as Advertised So Far

So, I warily purchased this printer after reading lots of reviews for lots of printers. The printer was hooked up in just a few minutes and has worked since. Two notes: I followed previous advice and downloaded installation software directly from the Brother website. The software automatically updated the firmware and loaded the latest drivers. My only hiccup: I had wanted to use the USB port but couldn’t find it! Only after going through the installation material did I learn that it is located in the center of the printer beneath the scanner(?!?). I didn’t have a USB cable long enough for the odd cable pathway, and the instructions said to limit cable length below six feet. Well, the wireless connection works as advertised, so I won’t complain until I start getting connection issues others have complained about.

Great all in one printer, but big damn footprint.

Great all in one printer, with many features you usually only find in more expensive machines. So far every feature has worked well and the inexpensive replacement ink cartridges is a big plus. The only downside we’ve found is that this printer has a very large footprint, due to the huge scanning area. If you don’t need to scan very large documents, the next model down might be a better fit.

Best printer I’ve ever had.

With all the cheap printers out there, it’s difficult to find a decent one at any price.

Just say NO to the 6535

 on April 12, 2018
By Lemon Party
6535 is a perfect example of a product under the direction of the company that doesn’t know how to say “No”. Should we have apps, yes, connection wizards, yes, OCR, yes, fax, yes, scanner, yes, email, yes, firmware updates weekly, yes, wireless printing, yes, direct wireless printing, yes. Does any of it work? no.

Easy set up, easily configuration w/ computer/phone/etc.

I’ve had this printer for about two weeks now – so far so good. I haven’t done any heavy printing jobs yet, but it’s done everything I’ve needed it to in day-to-day printing.

No automatic duplex printing unless you use the driver from the provided disc!

 on July 12, 2018
By Amazon Prime Customer
The description clearly says this supports duplex automatic printing. If you do not load the driver that comes with the printer and select that driver for your printer you cannot use the duplex functionality. Using the default Brother driver for the MFC-J6535DW that loads without the disk won’t initiate all of the functionality of this printer. The process is very convoluted.

Best Printer i have Owned!

Could not be happier with a printer. Fast, economical and many features. So glad i purchased this one. I did my homework before i decided to buy this particular printer. I had not even thought of buying a Brother brand. Believe me, you will be happy if you buy this printer. It is a little larger than some, but necessary to get all the features.
